An AI answer has two layers.
Your brand has to say the same thing in both.
GEM, Generative Experience Marketing, is the work that brings together what ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Mode say about a brand and what the brand pays to show next to that answer. ThinkAI measures both layers, aligns them, and verifies that the person comparing and choosing finds a single message.
Request the AI Light AuditWhat Generative Experience Marketing is
Generative Experience Marketing (GEM) is the discipline that coordinates a brand’s organic presence in generative AI answers, achieved through GEO, with its paid presence in those same spaces, such as ChatGPT Ads and Google’s ads inside AI Overviews and AI Mode. The goal is for the brand’s description and the ad to arrive consistent at the moment the person compares and decides.
The term has been circulating in Chinese industry documents since 2026, where three associations published three GEO standards in three months. In Europe, GEM was born with the arrival of ads in ChatGPT, available in Italy since August 18, 2026, and with the formats Google is testing inside AI Mode.
Why being visible is not enough
Google selects ads inside AI Overviews by considering both the query and the content of the answer. The ad is matched to what the AI has just written about the brand. The first layer decides the second.
The organic layer
It is what the model believes about the brand: how it describes it, which category it places it in, whether it recommends or excludes it. It is built from the sources the model reads. It is governed through GEO.
The paid layer
It is what the brand pays to display next to the answer or inside the list of recommendations. OpenAI keeps it separate and states that it does not influence the answers; Google matches it to the content of the answer.
The lost comparison
A brand that buys an ad next to an answer that advises against it is paying to confirm a lost comparison. Advertising shows; it does not correct.
The double message
A brand with its sources in order, which then buys the ad, shows up twice in the same answer with the same message. That is the result GEM measures.
GEM inside ThinkAI BrandOS™
GEM is the fifth application of the BrandOS™ method: it uses the same phases, the same metrics, and the same deliverables, extended to the paid layer.
Measure both layers
80 questions across 6 AI platforms, recorded and traced back to their sources. For every question with purchase intent, we also record which ads appear, whose they are, and what the answer says next to them.
Align the sources
We work on the sources the models learn from: proprietary content, structured data, third-party pages. We build the content that is needed ourselves, if the client asks. This is the work that changes the organic layer, the only one advertising cannot touch.
Design the paid layer
We define where to buy, on which questions, and what the ad has to say to be consistent with the organic description. The client’s media center or agency can run the campaigns on our plan, or we can run them.
Verify
We record the answers and the ads again after the interventions and measure the consistency between the two layers, cycle after cycle.

Answer Consistency Score™
The consistency between the organic description and the ad on every question with purchase intent, from 0 to 100. It is added to the AI Perception Score™.
What an advertising platform does not measure
Platform tools count the ad’s impressions, clicks, and conversions. They do not say what the AI wrote next to it. The BrandOS™ metrics do.
AI Presence Rate™
Percentage of relevant questions in which the brand is cited correctly in the organic answer.
Citation Quality Index™
Accuracy, tone, and competitive framing with which the answer describes the brand.
Answer Consistency Score™
Consistency between the organic description and the ad on the same question.
Correction Effectiveness Rate™
Percentage of interventions, organic and paid, that produce a positive change in the next cycle.
The window is closing
In under 200 days, advertising in ChatGPT reached $1 billion in annualized revenue, with tens of thousands of advertisers in more than 40 countries. Google is testing ads inside AI Mode’s recommendation lists. In China, where 602 million people use generative AI, industry research warns that the window with the highest returns will not last beyond a year: advertising inside AI apps will drive up the cost of getting into the answers.
The organic route costs work and time. The paid route will keep getting more expensive. Whoever fixes their sources today will tomorrow buy ads that confirm a favorable answer instead of contradicting it. The data and sources are in the analysis ChatGPT has shown ads in Italy and across Europe since August 18, 2026.
